Muscat: Several volunteers have joined hands with personnel from the Environment Authority to help replant trees that were washed away or damaged by cyclone Shaheen.

The drive, which is taking place on 20 and 21 October, “saw the wide participation of volunteers and relevant authorities to repair damaged trees,” the authority said in a statement. “The campaign aims to preserve biodiversity, develop vegetation, reduce desertification, and rehabilitate degraded vegetation cover.”

The EA had opened an online registration portal for those who wished to volunteer during these two days. The Omani Sidr Society, the Environment Society of Oman, and the environmental departments in North and South Al Batinah also collaborated under this initiative.
