Seventh International Workshop on Food and Brain Health begins
Muscat: The seventh International Workshop on Food and Brain Health has started at Sultan Qaboos University.
This event is organized by Sultan Qaboos University, under the auspices of the Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) Department at the College of Agricultural & Marine Sciences (CAMS) at SQU, in association with the Ageing & Dementia Research Group (ADRG) at SQU.
This event is supported by International Brain Research Organization (IBRO-MENA), College of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, SQU, Springer Nature, Nutritional Neurosciences Book Series by Springer, and Food and Brain Research Foundation, India.
The main aim of the event is to create awareness on the impact of food, nutrition on brain health, through whole life and updates on Neuroethics and how to write books and articles.
Around 32 international speakers from the USA, Oman, Europe, Morroco, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Qatar, and India shared their research experiences. There were more than 200 participants registered for this event. The organizers for this event are Dr. Mohamed Essa, Associate Professor, FSN, CAMS, SQU, Ms. Buthaina Al-Bulushi, and Ms. Zainab Al-Mohammed along with the colleagues from the Food Science and Nutrition Department of SQU.
The whole event will be covering many brain diseases and the impact of food or diet on these diseases. There are some talks related to neuroethics and publication ethics, book publishing, the relevance of books in scholarly communication, bibliometric analysis, and sustainable development goals by Springer executives.
The event was started with a welcome note given by Ms. Zainab Al-Mohammed from FSN, CAMS, SQU and followed by the welcome address given by Dr. Mohammed Al-Khusaibi, HoD, FSN, CAMS, SQU. The program was officially inaugurated by Dr. Amer Al-Hinai, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Post Graduate Studies and Research, SQU.
The first session was chaired by Dr. Wael Mohammed from IIUM, Malaysia, and the keynote was delivered by Prof. Robert Friedland from the University of Louisville, the USA on gut microbiota and benefits of food and nutrition and followed by Dr. Farooq Shaikh from Monash University, Malaysia on Epilepsy and food. Indian traditional medicine and brain health was given by Prof. Surajit Pathak. Dr. Wael Mohammed, IIUM, Malaysia talking about Food and neuroscience.
Prof. Gerald Muench, University of Western Sydney will talk on the use of Valeriana officinalis for the brain. Prof. Dartin Dr. Norlinah, UKM, Malaysia about the role of diet and micronutrients in Parkinson’s disease, and Dr. Youssef Aboussaleh, Morroco is talking about Mediterranean Diet and Brain Nutrition.
Dr. Mohammed Salama, from AUC, Cairo, Egypt will talk about Nutri-genomics and Brain health. Dr. Sulie Chang from Seton Hall University, NJ, USA will be talking on Network Meta-analysis of Alcohol Modulation of Amyloid Precursor Protein in Alzheimer’s disease and Dr. Sattar Khan from Harvard Medical School, the USA on Alpha 7 Acetylcholine Receptor: An Immune Link between Gut and Brain. Dr. Farah Zahir from UBC Canada talked about the epigenetics of diet and drugs in pregnant women and their impacts on the developing fetus.
Dr. Saravanababu from JSS University, India will talk on Blueberry and Sleep. Prof. Gilles J Guillemin, MQU, Australia talked about anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant using kynurenine pathway molecules. Dr. Rafat Ali Siddiqui, VSU, the USA talked about Omega 3 fatty acids and brain cancer. Dr. Walid Qoronfleh, Q3 Consulting USA is talking about Neuroethics, Precision Medicine: Trends & Challenges, and Dr. Antara Banerjee from Chettinadu University, India is talking about updates on aging research.
Dr. Judie Arulappan from SQU will be talking about ADHD and food and Dr. Pooja Sawhney from KLM Dayanand College talked about Streptokinase. Dr. Jaya Kumar Murthy, UKM, Malaysia will talk about PKC EPSILON-MTORC2 in Alcohol Use Disorder, and Dr. P. Valsaraj, MAHE, India will be talking about anxiety and black seed.
 Dr. Blessy PV, SQU is giving talks on Food to enhance happiness, and the Food and brain research foundation, India sponsored talk will be given by Ms. Swetha Senthilkumar, SRMIST, India on the Role of probiotics in modulating acrylamide induced developmental toxicity in the fruit fly.
