Muscat: Oman’s main committee for the sighting of the moon will meet on Monday to sight the crescent moon, which will determine the start of Ramadan this year.
The meeting, which will be held at the office of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, will be chaired by Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Salmi, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, in the presence of His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate.
Other members of the committee include Dr. Muhammad bin Said Al Mamari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Dr. Saleh Bin Hamad bin Salem Al Rashdi, Vice President of the Supreme Court.
Also on the committee are Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Sattar bin Ahmed Al Kamali, President of the Court of Appeal in Musandam Governorate, Mohammed bin Salem bin Dahman Al Nahdi, Judge of the Court of Appeal, and Dr Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hashmi, Supreme Court Judge.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs has called on citizens and residents to investigate the sighting of the crescent moon, in cooperation with field teams in the governorates, or by communicating with the sub-committees at the offices of the governors of the country.
