Weather alert: Vehicle drivers urged to take caution

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has urged vehicle drivers to be alert and take necessary precautions in the event of rainfall and low horizontal visibility.

"Vehicle drivers should take caution and all the necessary precautions in the event of rain and low horizontal visibility," the ROP said in a statement.

ROP added tips for safe driving in the rain:

 1- Drive slowly and keep an appropriate distance with the vehicle in front of you to be able to act correctly in emergency situations.

 2- Stay away from the vehicle that is ahead of you with a safe distance that allows you to stop within five seconds at least.

3- Use additional lights or flashlights if necessary

 4- When driving in submerged water, do not press the gas pedal, but rather direct the wheels forward, and do not press the brakes until you regain full control over the vehicle.

 5- If the vehicle skids, direct the steering wheel in the direction you want to go and do not press the brakes hard.
