Muscat: The number of historical monuments in the Sultanate of Oman has exceeded 3000 until October 2021, said the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
"The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism represented by the Directorate General of Antiquities is updating the inventory and documenting the castles, forts and historical monuments in all the governorates of the Sultanate, in coordination with all the authorities and departments affiliated with the ministry. The ministry started the project work in the Governorate of Muscat, specifically in the Wilayat of Quriyat," the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that this project comes within the ministry’s direction to preserve the architectural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman by defining the state of the landmarks and documenting them with pictures, surveying and architectural descriptions. The ministry carried out an inventory of castles, forts and historical monuments in 2011, and concluded that the number of historical monuments has reached 3400 until October 2021.
