Muscat: The Minister of Health has met on Monday organ transplantation experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) .

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health pointed out in the meeting the blessings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to establish a National Centre for Organ Transplantation, which will work on developing the National Transplantation Programme.

The meeting touched upon the significance of cooperation with the WHO toward developing the national programme and stressed the importance of multi-sectorial cooperation for the success of the programme, taking into consideration the Ministry’s orientation towards developing a post-mortem organ donation system to serve greater number of organ failure patients.

It should be noted that there are more than 2200 patients suffering from kidney failure and are on regular dialysis. The availability of organs can save their lives through transplants.

Notably, once the National Transplantation Programme is activated, liver transplant surgeries will be completely performed in the Sultanate without the need for sending many patients abroad for the same.
