Muscat: The Royal Oman Police has foiled two attempts to smuggle more than 3,500 packages of khat drug into the Sultanate of Oman.
"The Coast Guard police in the Governorate of Dhofar thwarted two attempts to smuggle the khat drug into the country. Police boats managed to seize the two smuggling boats, and in one boat, four infiltrators were arrested, with 2,224 packages of the khat drug, while 1,522 packages of khat were seized from the other boat, in the possession of the boat's crew of four smugglers," ROP said in a statement
On the other hand, the Dhofar Governorate Police Command arrested two people on charges of smuggling illegal foreign nationals out of the country. Three African infiltrators were found in the trunk of a vehicle. The legal procedures are being completed against the accused.
