Ramadan Special: The essence of the spirit of fasting

Fasting is not only a physical but also a spiritual exercise that has many lasting benefits. It enables a person to develop sustained consciousness of God, helps one to choose a healthier lifestyle by small but meaningful changes in the dietary habits, and helps to make a person more humble and purposeful in daily life.  If you are fasting for the first time purely for the health benefits and finding it difficult to maintain in the first week, talk to a friend who has been fasting for years and hear this from him or her. “It might seem difficult in the first week, but it gets easier. Remember, it is all in the mind." It is important to have a purpose. Without a purpose or a plan, the whole essence of the spirit of fasting gets lost.

Healthy Iftar and Suhoor

Choose healthy cooking methods when it comes to making pastries. Try baking sambusa, fish cutlets, and pakora, instead of deep-frying them. Also enjoy your sugary Ramadan juices in moderation and aim for more servings of laban, homemade iced green tea, or plain water.
