Muscat: The governorates of South Al Sharqiah and Al Wusta accounted for 70.1 per cent of the Sultanate of Oman’s production of fish during the year 2021 through artisanal fishing, and the production of the two governorates amounted to 646,734 tonnes of fish, crustaceans, mollusks.
Preliminary figures issued by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources indicated that Oman’s production of fish reached 922,084 tonnes last year, compared to 839,071 tonnes in 2020, and the artisanal fishing sector contributed 869,968 tonnes of fish, with a percentage of more than 94 per cent of the total production, and the remaining percentage was distributed to the coastal and commercial fishing and aquaculture sectors.
