Muscat: The Royal Hospital has succeeded in transplanting kidneys for two Omani children who were suffering from kidney failure. A patient in a vegetative state donated his kidneys to them.
"To relieve the suffering of two children (Durar and Aseel) from kidney failure, a vegetative state patient donated his kidneys to them for an easier and more comfortable life. The hospital's transplant department succeeded in transplanting kidneys to two children who were living on dialysis," Royal Hospital said in a statement.
Salima Al Saadi , the mother of the child, Durar, said that Durar had been suffering from the disease for six years, and after the kidney transplantation, the medicines were reduced and the psychological condition of the child changed.
Abdullah Al Balushi, the father of the child, Aseel, said "My son Aseel’s operation was successful after suffering from illness for eight years."
Dr. Nevin Al Kalbani, Head of the Organ Transplant Department at the Royal Hospital, said such efforts were part of the national program for organ transplantation, with efforts from various hospitals in the Sultanate, to help in empowering some patients who do not get medically qualified donors so that they get a chance to restore their lives again and stay away from dialysis machines.
