Muscat: A fine of OMR 1,000 has been imposed on an expat for selling chewing tobacco, which is prohibited for sale in the Sultanate.
Consumer Protection Authority said in a statement: “The Department of Consumer Protection in Rustaq was recently able to arrest an expatriate worker who sells chewing (non-smoking) tobacco, as part of the efforts made by the authority to combat behaviours that have a negative impact on the health and safety of society and to control the abuses of perpetrators and hold them accountable in accordance with the Consumer Protection Law.”
Seized from the expat were 52 pills of Afdhal, 6 pills of prohibited Royal-type cigarettes, and 10 boxes of Chana type tobacco. A fine of OMR 1,000 was imposed.
