Summit focuses on electricity issues and their relationship to renewables

Muscat: IEEE Power Talks Oman kicked off at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Monday.

The several-day event, organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) addresses the outlook of energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The opening ceremony of the conference was held under the auspices of Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology.

As many as 50 speakers from energy and electricity experts from different countries of the world take part in the event.

Eng. Abdulaziz Al Shidhani, Director General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals said that the conference focuses on electricity issues and their relationship to renewable energy and hydrogen.

He explained that the ministry is working on several possible policies in this field cantered around energy, green hydrogen policies, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Joint work is initiated with government institutions concerned with this sector to translate the Royal directives related to hydrogen.

The conference focuses on the future of energy sector in the Sultanate of Oman, renewable energy technologies and storage solutions, digital transformation and its effects on electricity transmission networks, in addition to energy management and efficiency, asset management and improvement.

The conference includes three workshops addressing the economics of hydrogen, energy efficiency and the impacts of renewable energy projects on transportation networks.
