Judicial ruling issued against two people accused of insulting God

Muscat: The Sohar Court of Appeals, "Criminal Chamber", issued a prison sentence for two people for insulting the religions.

The public prosecution said in the ruling: "The investigations conducted by the public prosecution revealed that the convicts, Ali and Ghaith, had published writings on their personal account on the social networking platform Twitter, insulting the Divine Entity, and published the same in one of the groups on WhatsApp."

The ruling was as follows:

First: Convicting the accused, Ali bin Marhoon bin Abdullah, of the felony of insulting the Divine Essence, and the court sentenced him to 5 years in prison, and convicting the accused, Maryam bint Yusuf bin Ali, of the felony of insulting the religions, and sentenced her to three years in prison.

Second: The accused, Ghaith Matar Hamad, is held criminally responsible for the two felony offenses of insulting the Divine Essence, and using the network and information technology to incite immorality.
