Oman to soon have 5 projects in renewable energy

Muscat: The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company plans to attract investments of more than OMR 480 million (1.25 billion US dollars) to implement a number of projects in renewable energy and water.

Eng Yaqoub bin Saif Al Kiyumi, CEO of the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company, said: "The company is currently developing two power plants using solar energy in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, with an investment of $600 million and a total capacity of 1,000 megawatts, which will be awarded before the end of this year."

He added to the Oman News Agency: "The company will invest $300 million in wind energy projects to be established in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali in the South Sharqiyah Governorate and in the Wilayat of Duqm in the Al Wusta Governorate."

He confirms that the company has contracted with the private sector to establish two desalination plants in Muscat and Barka, with an investment estimated at about $350 million.
