Young Omanis and Koreans gathered at the Korean Embassy to the Sultanate in Muscat on June 9. At this gathering, Korean students wore Omani dishdasha and sirwal offered by members of the OK Nuri, a voluntary group of Omani fans of Korean culture. Omani participants tried hanbok, Korean traditional costume. They appreciated the beauty and traditional elegance embodied in the design of both costumes of Oman and Korea.
The Omani and Korean participants are further engaged in sessions where traditional handicraft items were introduced. What made the sessions even more enjoyable and lively was the activities to make handicrafts on the spot, going beyond just seeing the items.
H.E. KIM Kiejoo, Korean Ambassador to the Sultanate valued highly the voluntary cultural exchange activities at the grassroots level, which contributes substantially to mutual understanding, exchanges and support in other parts of the relations. Ambassador KIM emphasized that “promoting knowledge about respective traditions and cultures is a great privilege for the Koreans and Omanis as the two countries are endowed with rich history and cultural heritage.” He also assured that “the Korean Embassy will continue to work together with the Omani and the Korean friends to promote people-to-people exchanges.”
Members of the OK Nuri Group expressed their intention to continue their work as a “cultural bridge” to link the Omani and Korean people. They also pledged that they will exert their best efforts to contribute to the already- strong bonds of friendship between the two peoples and countries.
