Muscat: Organised by Oman Sail, the Oman Sailing Festival will kick off at Bassa public beach in Musandam from 20-24 December 2022 as the nationwide tour concludes.
Visitors will have the chance to enjoy free sessions and try sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing from Oman Sail’s professional instructors.
There will also be a beach clean-up run in partnership with Environment Society of Oman (ESO) to remove waste from the shores and preserve the natural habitat for native wildlife.
The event will take place from 10am to 5pm on each day and also includes a daily market featuring local SMEs.
Ali Al Sheheimi, Oman Sailing Festival Project Manager, said, “Musandam is an exciting destination for the final stop on this year’s Oman Sailing Festival and we are looking forward to returning here for the second year. The potential for Oman’s next sailing or surfing champion to come from Musandam, a city so closely linked to the sea, is huge, and our professional instructors will teach the basic techniques and safety measures to get sailors of all ages out on the water for fun or, perhaps, for even more!”
“As we have throughout the Oman Sailing Festival, we are also sharing an important environmental message with us. Oman Sail has committed to caring for the local environment and preserving our beaches and seas so that future generations can enjoy clean waters, as well as doing all we can to have a positive impact on the native plant and marine life across our beautiful country,” he added.
For more than two months, the Oman Sailing Festival organised by Oman Sail has travelled across the country to introduce communities to the opportunities to learn how to sail, windsurf and kitesurf, as well as sharing the possibilities in the sport for people with disabilities.
So far, more than one thousand and six hundred people have received lessons from professional coaches and thousands more have visited the festival sites to enjoy local food, arts and crafts. The beach clean-up programme has been incredibly successful in removing of waste from shorelines across Oman, showing how a small act can make a big difference.
The Oman Sailing Festival is proudly supported by Oman Air, National Mineral Water Company (Tanuf), Environment society of Oman (ESO), and National University of Science and Technology (International Maritime College).
