

Muscat: Statistics issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources indicated that 5618 violations of the Living Water Resources Law, and 547 cases of seizure and confiscation were recorded in 2022 in all coastal governorates of Oman.
According to a ministry report, the violations include failure to obtain, renew or hold licenses for boats, ships, transportation and marketing. Other violations include practicing fishing, using or possessing prohibited fishing methods, equipment and devices, not placing plates on fishing boats and vessels, employing unlicensed expatriate labor and a violation of fishing in prohibited areas, as well as hunting, possession, trading and exporting marine wealth outside the specific seasons for fishing it.
In statistics issued by the Fisheries Control and Licensing Department of the General Directorate of Fish Resources Development in the Ministry, recorded violations were distributed by month as follows: 371 violations in January, 399 violations in February, 624 violations in March, 242 violations in April, 394 violations in May and 395 violations in June. 350 violations in July, 404 violations in August, 566 violations in September, 622 violations in October, 785 violations in November, and 466 violations in December. These comprise a total of 5618 violations.
In addition, the statistics showed that 547 cases of confiscation and seizure were recorded, distributed by month as follows: 143 cases in January, 55 cases in February, 64 cases in March, one case in April, 30 cases in May and 30 cases in June. 9 cases in July, 12 cases in August, 37 cases in September, 67 cases in October, 73 cases in November, and 26 cases in December, with a total of 547 cases.
