Oman Flour Mills Company receives its first shipment of Australian wheat

Muscat: Oman Flour Mills Company (OFM) received the first Australian wheat shipment it purchased through its affiliated company OMAUS PTY Ltd, as part of its project for purchasing wheat directly from Australian farmers.

The affiliated company signed an agreement with Australian farmers for purchasing 34,728 metric tonnes of Australian wheat.

Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al-Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources inspected the first wheat shipment accompanied by Mark Lawrence Donovan, Ambassador of Australia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Yemen Arab Republic.

They also listened to an explanation about the efforts exerted by OFM to diversify the sources of purchasing wheat.

Haitham bin Mohamed Al Fannah, Chief Executive Officer of OFM, said: “Oman Flour Mills Company secured high quality wheat from farmers in Australia. This resulted in shortening the supply chain, as part of its role played to enhance the food security and secure the strategic stock of grain in the Sultanate of Oman.”

He added: “The establishment of OMAUS PTY Ltd in Australia, which worked directly with farmers to secure wheat shipments from Australia adds value to the strategic stock by receiving high quality grain in a way that achieves a competitive advantage in the international markets.”

The chief executive officer of OFM explained that his company moves forward to invest in strategic assets across the grain value chain.

This will ensure that the Sultanate of Oman will receive high quality grain at competitive prices. It will also guarantee the availability of grain, which will enable the Sultanate to secure strategic procurements and ensure food security.
