Oman urban planning hackathon launched to address challenges to sustainable development

Muscat: The third edition of "Oman Hackathon for Urban Planning" was launched on Sunday. Organised at the Youth Centre, the event is hosted by the GCC-based European Union mission.

In Oman, the hackathon is organized in cooperation with a number of public and private establishments, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Muscat Municipality.

The event seeks to forge thorough solutions to complications related to sustainable development, enhance the capabilities of local talents and support green transformation in the city of Muscat.

The hackathon focuses on various themes of urban planning: climate change, urban sustainability, waste management, mobility, energy, water management, community participation, public spaces, and community and culture as an urban dimension.

The hackathon provides for training 30 competitors shortlisted from more than 400 applicants from all over Oman, who were entrusted to provide solutions in the fields of technology, urban development and culture.
