Beware if you spread false weather reports

Muscat: A penalty of up to three years and a fine of up to OMR 50,000 will be charged up on anyone who spreads rumours or false information about the weather or tropical conditions, the Civil Aviation Authority, ( CAA ), said.

The Civil Aviation Authority, ( CAA ), issued an alert in which it clarified the necessity of obtaining the correct weather information and following up the weather bulletins issued by official sources, due to the spread of rumors and the dissemination of false information about tropical conditions other than what is published by the Oman Meteorology.

The Authority referred to Articles 30 and 63 of the Civil Aviation Law, which stipulate:

First: Article (30) - Chapter Six / Approvals

“It is prohibited to practice civil aviation activities, air navigation and meteorological services without the approval of the competent authority.”

Second: Article (63) - Chapter Thirteen / Penalties

“Whoever violates the provisions of Article (30) shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of no less than one year and not exceeding (3) years, and a fine of no less than OMR 15,000 and not exceeding OMR 50,000, or one of these two penalties.

The Oman Meteorology confirmed on Monday that there are preliminary indications in the Omani and international numerical forecast models for the possibility of a tropical state forming in the southeast of the Arabian Sea during the next week

Specialists at the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards, ( NCEWMH ) are following up developments in the formation of the tropical state.
