Muscat: French Ambassador to Oman, Roland Dubertrand hosted the French Bastille Day celebrations at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Muscat on July 14.
The celebrations saw several dignitaries and diplomats from various embassies — the United States’ Ambassador to Oman, Mark J Sievers; the Tunisian Ambassador Farhad Khlif, the Egyptian Ambassador Sabri Majdi Sabri, and the Brazilian Ambassador Mitzi Gurgel Valente da Costa among others.
The Omani delegation was led by Dr. Shaikh Khattab bin Ghalib Al Hinai, vice chairman of the State Council.
Celebrations began with the singing of the national anthems of the Sultanate and France, and Ambassador Dubertrand emphasised the bilateral relations between the two countries and said France would like to continue with these friendly ties.
Ambassador Dubertand and Al Hinai, took part in the customary cake-cutting ceremony and also invited Commander Thomas Grasser, who will soon be posted with Eurocorp, a Strasbourg based, North Atlantic Military Alliance, to join them.
A sumptuous feast, which included a variety of cheese and French breads among other delights, was served to the guests who were attending the event throughout the evening.
