Malaysia outplay Oman in hockey

Muscat: Oman suffered their second successive defeat in the ongoing 19th Asia Cup men’s hockey competition in Hangzhou, China, on Tuesday when they were handed a massive 11-1 defeat by Malaysia in a Pool B game.

Oman, coached by Dutchman Siegfried Aikman, had begun their campaign with a narrow 3-2 defeat in their opening game against the hosts China on Sunday. However,  against Malaysia, who are a much superior and experienced opponents, they failed to provide any resistance.

Malaysia came into the match high on confidence after their 9-0 win over Thailand and continued their goal-scoring spree against Oman.

Malaysia scored through Razie Rahim (third and 11th minutes), Ashran Hamsani (14th), Shello Silverius (18th), Faizal Saari (26th), Azrai Aizad Kamal (29th), Ashran Hamsani (30th), Najmi Farizal Jazlan (34th), Ashran Hamsani (35th), Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (36th) and Faizal Saari (39th).

Malaysia led 3-0 at the end of first quarter and them hammered four more in the next quarter though Oman’s Fahad Al Lawati managed to find a goal in the 23rd minute.

Malaysia led 7-1 at the interval and made it 11-1 by the end of third before Oman held on gamely in the final 15 to end the match without conceding any more goals.

Oman now take on Thailand in their next match on Thursday.
