Muscat: Oman-British Friendship Society held a reception party under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture.
It was attended by Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Zaher Al Hinai, the Sultanate’s ambassador to UK and a number of Omani and British businessmen.
Haitham delivered a speech in which he thanked Prince Andrew for attending the party thrown by the society for the consecutive third year.
Prince Andrew, in his speech, said the historic friendship between Oman and Britain is greater and stronger, pointing out to the similarity between the two people with regards to trade and the economy and both people from across the ocean looking for a livelihood.
Prince Andrew added that these distinctive aspects are more than enough to strengthen the ties between the nations.
The reception party was aimed at inviting the Omani and British participants to a conference, which will be held in Manichean House, the official headquarter of the Mayor of the Capital District in London, and will be on the logistics sector and activating tourism in the Sultanate.
The conference will also focus on developing a plan for the Omani logistics sector within the next quarter of a century and the investment opportunities in this important sector.
Meanwhile, the Sultanate participated at the second GCC-British Economic Forum, which was organised by the Arab British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC). A number of senior Gulf and British officials, executives, decision makers, investors and economists attended the forum.
Participants from the Omani side included Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications and Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah bin Zaher Al Hinai, the Sultanate’s ambassador to UK.
Renowned
A number of renowned world figures, such as Prince Andrew Duke of York, Dr. Abdulatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, GCC Secretary General, Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, ABCC Chairman and Dr. Afnan Al Shuaib, ABCC Secretary General & CEO.
Dr. Al Futaisi said that the transport and communications sector in the Sultanate has progressed by leaps and bounds under the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan.
He added that the achievements made will attract new investments to the Sultanate and will enhance the public-private partnership. The forum is a platform for active networks that highlight the economic and investment opportunities.
