Voting for Shura Council begins tomorrow

Muscat: Omani voters outside the Sultanate of Oman will cast their votes on Sunday to choose who will represent them for membership in the Shura Council for the tenth term, via the “Intakhib” App application from eight in the morning until seven in the evening, Oman time.

The electoral process is witnessing a qualitative shift with the launch of the second version of the “Intakhib” application.

The Ministry of the Interior explained that new improvements and updates have been made to the “Intakhib” voting application, such as the audio reading feature for people with visual disabilities. Through voice guidance, the application can help at all stages of voting and candidate selection, and the sign language feature, will be optionally available to people with disabilities.

The application is characterised by an easy and simple user interface and a high level of security using the latest technologies in the field of encryption.

The voter’s data will be verified in three basic steps, which are photographing the original ID card from both sides, then reading the personal card data via the NFC feature and taking a personal photo of the voter.

Voting takes place in simple steps, where the voter takes a photo of the ID card from both sides, then places the original chip of the card attached to the phone to read the data. Then he takes a personal photo of himself, then a list of photos of the candidates is shown to him to choose his candidate, and finally the vote confirmation button appears.

For a voter to cast his vote, he must ensure that his name is registered in the electoral register and download the new version of the app, along with the original ID card and a smartphone equipped with two cameras and the NFC feature.
