Ibra: The Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has completed all preparations for the winter tourism season to attract tourists from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. The tourism season which extends from October to April, every year in Oman.
Samiyah bint Hamad Al Busaidi, Director of Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate said that the department has acquainted with the preparations of the hotel establishments in the wilayats of the Governorate and has followed with the commitment of these establishments with the quality standards set by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The department also followed with the safety of means of transport within the camps and the hotel establishments and verified the validity of the related tourism licences, she added.
She said that the wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate are known for their tourism potentials such as Al Sharqiyah Sand, the wadis, oasis and water springs, forts and castles, traditional souqs and old neighbourhoods.
She said that the Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate aimed to fuel and further develop the tourism sector in the governorate through organising seasonal events related to desert, mountain or water adventure tourism which attract tourists among other activities.
The activities also include visits to the site of water lakes in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, which attract tourists for the purpose of relaxation, she added.
She pointed to that the last tourism season in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate has seen an increase in the profits and revenues and an increase in the percentage of hotel rooms occupancy which ranged between 60 % to 90 %.
She said that the number of licenced hotel establishments amounted to 47 with 1044 hotel rooms with tourism camps in the governorate seeing a remarkable improvement.
