Ibra: The Wilayats of North Al Sharqiyah Governorate have witnessed a large influx of tourists for the past four days during the 53rd National Day holiday.
In the wilayat of Bidyah, the visitors enjoyed a number of activities in the sand dunes such as the endurance Arabian Camel Race and Al Ardha camel show, group camping activities, walking on sand dunes and camel riding.
The wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid also received a big number of visitors mainly at the lakes areas. The Wilayats of Ibra, Al Mudhaibi, Dima Wal Ta’ein, Al Qabil and Sinaw saw an active tourism movement where the number of visitors amounted to 12,774 from within and outside the wilayats.
The tourists to these wilayats visited several landmarks, wadis, water springs, forts and castles and old souqs.
Sumaia bint Hamad Al Busaidi, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, said that the department in cooperation with the various sectors has accorded due efforts in activating the tourism sector in the Governorate, mainly during the holidays, through organising some seasonal activities related to desert, mountain and water adventure tourism.
The tourism season in North Al Sharqiyah witnessed positive indicators in terms of revenues and in hotel room occupancy which reached 60 to 90 percent and the number of licenced hotel establishments in the governorate amounted to 47 with 1,044 hotel rooms.
