Muscat: Over 500 labourers were arrested from different Wilayats in Oman for violating the Labour Law last week.
The Ministry of Manpower’s team discovered 584 labourers between July 17 and July 23 this year, who were found guilty of violating the labour law, of which 453 were commercial workers, 64 were farmers, while the remaining 67 were domestic workers.
Upon further inspection, 563 labourers had absconded, been released from their workplace, were referred to the ministry by a third party or were arrested.
The ministry stated that 268 labourers had absconded, while 254 were released by their employers and 41 were referred to the ministry by a third party.
The Muscat Governorate topped the list of arrested workers, with 222 of them being arrested, followed by the North Al Batinah Governorate which made 129 arrests.
The responsible authorities have adopted the necessary legal measures. Additionally, 323 labour law violators were deported last week.
