Salalah: An e-commerce Conference under the theme “e-payment” was opened at Crowne Plaza Hotel Salalah yesterday.
The fourth international meeting has been organised under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar Al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service and some officials.
The two-day event, organised by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) branch in the Governorate of Dhofar, in collaboration with Middle East Centre for Social Consultancies and Studies, is held under strategic partnership with the Central Bank of Oman (CBO), the United Nations (UN) and Information Technology Authority (ITA).
Abdullah bin Salim Al Rowas, head of OCCI branch in Dhofar said that the remarkable progress made by e-commerce in various countries of the world has been associated with many challenges and requirements especially the e-payment and the security required to process e-commerce transactions. Dr. Ali bin Suhail Tabok, CEO of Middle East Centre for Social Consultancies and Studies said that the conference aims at promoting e-transformation and raising companies’ awareness of the importance of e-payment and its role in enhancing development and promoting e-commerce in the Sultanate and Arab world.
The conference covers a range of themes, such as e-payment concept, the legal framework for e-payment and its economic dimension, the security worries, the cybercrimes, the novel technological solutions and the most successful practices in
e-payment.
The first day included two sessions as the first of which covered information security and its effect on the financial system, as well as the role of the CBO in developing the infrastructure for e-payment in the Sultanate. The second session included e-payment and
the law.
