Muscat : A medical team from the Khoula Hospital performed cerebral angioplasty of a girl suffering from an arterial dilatation in the brain at Sohar Hospital.
A specialised medical team at the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, in cooperation with the Neurology department at Sohar Hospital, performed cerebral angioplasty.
Dr. Ahmed bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Consultant in Neurointerventional Radiology at Khoula Hospital, confirmed that the critical operation took place in Sohar Hospital due to the availability of paediatric, internal medicine, cardiology, anaesthesia, neurology and neurosurgery specialists.
Al Habsi pointed out that the operation was made under local anaesthesia due to the patient’s heart condition and breathing problems.
The operation took one hour and a stent was placed inside the dilated artery. The girl had been operated at Khoula Hospital five years ago due to a brain haemorrhage at that time.
Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed Al Alawi, Director General of the General Directorate of Khoula Hospital, stressed that this cooperation, integration and decentralisation in the provision of health services, including specialised medical services, comes in support of the policy of the Ministry of Health.
