New integrated complex to host FIH Hockey5s World Cup qualifiers

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has received an integrated complex named ‘Hockey Oman’.

It’s a new complex that will host the FIH Hockey5s World Cup qualifiers, due to be held in the run-up to Summer 2024 Olympic Games, Paris.

Eights International teams will compete in matches, which will be held from 15 to 21 January 2024. The teams will compete to book three tickets for the next Olympics.

The new stadium will also host the Futsal Hockey World Cup “Oman 2024”, to be held in Oman from 24 to 31 January 2024.

The stadium can accommodate more than 5,000 spectators during the tournament and all seats can be removed and used in other stadiums. The integrated complex was built in accordance with the latest standards and designs approved by the International Hockey Federation.

The complex comprises two playgrounds deigned in accordance with the international specifications and criteria besides other training playgrounds and facilities such as the offices, change rooms, first aid rooms, referees’ rooms and offices of security service and VIPs among other facilities. 

Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, said that the new project would serve Oman’s hockey championships and is expected to serve the hockey games at the regional and international level.

Dr. Marwan bin Jumah Al Jumah, Chairman of the Board of Oman Hockey Association, said that Oman Hockey Project represents a qualitative shift in the history of Oman sport in general and in the hockey sport in particular.

The project would pay due care and attention to the juniors and other age groups through establishment of an academy to generate those who excel in the field of the sport, he added.
