
Muscat: The Children Museum in Muscat Governorate, affiliated to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, is executing a plan for development and dissemination of knowledge associated with space sciences and technology and display of new innovations.
Dr. Saud bin Humaid Al Shuaili, Director General of the Directorate General of Policies and Governance and Chairman of the National Programme of Space at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said that the museum would launch during the second half of the current year a corner for space sciences and technology and tourism with the purpose of inspiring students and increasing their knowledge and interest in sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The National Space Programme would upgrade the corner to keep abreast with the space sciences and technology, he said, adding that the corner would accommodate a number of educational and entertainment facilities and activities.
The facilities and activities would contribute to enhancement of the national economy, creation of job opportunities and encouragement of research and innovation, he added.
He said that the construction cost at this corner of the museum comprising two phases will be approximately OMR192,500.
The second phase of the project would be completed soon and the operation of the project would start in the second half of this year, he said
Khadija bint Khamis Al Hinai, Head of the Department of Development and Studies at the National Space Centre, said that the ministry is working on a project for establishment of a corner of space sciences and technology at the Children Museum in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth.
She pointed out that Daleel Petroleum has financed a part of the project with OMR58,000 executed by Innotech Company along with the periodical maintenance of the project for five years at OMR15,000 by the company, she added. -ONA
