Joint GCC team carries out excavation work at Sanab village to collect artefacts

Muscat: A joint team from the GCC carried out excavation works in the Sanab village in the Wilayat of Bausher, Muscat Governorate.

The aim of the excavation was to document the site and carry out survey work of the surrounding areas to collect the archaeological evidence.

Sanab is one of the fascinating villages in the Wilayat of Bausher that contains artefacts dating back to the first century BC.

It also has a number of heritage landmarks of the Islamic period including Sanab Tower, old houses, wadis, waterfalls , falajs and the farms of the village.

A meeting was held on the results of excavations at the site and joint surveys and exploration works carried out at the site.

A ceremony was held after the end of 10 days of excavations on the premises of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism under the patronage of Ibrahim bin Said Al Kharrousi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in the presence of a number of officials at the Ministry.

Ali bin Hamood Al Mahrooqi, Director of Archaeological Surveys and Explorations at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said that the wilayat of Bausher contains important heritage sites dating back to the stone age.

The site at Sanab extends from the foot of the hill to the new residential area, he said, pointing to the contribution of the researchers from the GCC states in this excavation as part of the programme of the Secretariat General of the GCC.

He said that the participants exchanged expertise on excavations. Sultan Al Rasheed, the leader of the archaeological explorations team at the Heritage Authority in Saudi Arabia, said that the joint excavations were carried out after approval from the undersecretaries of heritages and museums in the GCC States. -With ONA inputs
