Khasab: The 5th edition of Cinemana International Festival was inaugurated on Sunday at Khasab Sports and Cultural Club.
The festival is being organised by the Office of the Governor of Musandam Governorate and a number of government departments and private sector establishments under the patronage of Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture.
The Cinemana International Festival aims to shed light on the cultural, tourism and economic aspects through the activities and events accompanying the festival.
It also aims to disseminate the culture of cinema and the role it plays in the cultural arena, to identify the young talents in the field of film industry and to encourage and develop innovative content .
The opening ceremony included the announcement of the titles of films taking part in the festival, which included six-long documentary films and eleven short documentary films.
The opening ceremony also saw the screening of the movie titled ‘A tale of a castle’ made by Omani film director Sultan Al Ahmed. The film depicts the story of Khasab Fort. The Omani artists and Arab guests at the festival and the government and private entities sponsoring the event were honoured.
The ceremony also included the launch of the Cinema of Al Ajyal (generations) team, under the umbrella of the Culture, Sports and Youth.
The team is chaired by Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahim Al Zadjali, chairman of the Cinemana International Festival. The team aims to develop the film industry under a modern academic vision.
Dr. Al Zadjali reaffirmed that the selection of Musandam Governorate for holding the festival is due to its strategic location and the diverse topography that fit the film industry.
