Muscat: Team Coorg Muscat and the Friends of Naqvi Group are all set to organise the annual Hockey Festival to mark the 70th Independence Day of India.
The 10th edition of the Hockey Festival, to be hosted under the patronage of Embassy of India and in co-operation with Oman Hockey Association, will take place at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex from 5 pm to 8 pm on August 12.
Indian Ambassador Indramani Pandey will be preside over the day’s proceedings as the chief guest while Sheikh Saud Al Rawahi, former vice-chairman of Oman Olympic Committee and former chief Oman football and athletic associations, and Aftab Patel, the CEO of Al Omaniya Financial Services, will be the guests of honour. OHA General Secretary Said Nasser Al Darmaki will the special guest.
The Festival will comprise two separate competitions, one for Independence Day Cup and the other for Ambassador’s Cup.
Team Coorg Dubai, who will be playing for the first time in Oman, will vie for Independence Day Cup with Team Coorg Dubai while Ambassador’s XI will clash with Indian School Al Seeb for the Ambassador’s Cup.
The organisers have, meanwhile, expressed disappointment over the absence of UTSC and Beatrice XI teams.
“UTSC and Beatrice XI, who have been supporting us for the past several years, will be highly missed,” the organisers said.
Waleed Associates LLC (Al Zawawi Group) are the main sponsors of the event while Mass International and Abdullah Al Farsi International are the co-sponsors. The individual sponsors are Promod G. Karajgikar, Lateef Shahdad and Narendra V. Ganatra.
