Muscat: The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) has just concluded a week of stunning performances, welcoming the world's leading opera stars on its stage.
As the curtain starts to fall on the 2023/24 season, ROHM treated audiences to unforgettable season highlights, including the mesmerising 'Homage to Maria Callas' on May 15 and the captivating production of 'La Bohème' in co-production with Monte Carlo Opera on May 16 and 18.
In a truly iconic tribute to the legendary soprano Maria Callas, the 'Homage to Maria Callas' concert featured acclaimed opera singers Sonya Yoncheva and Leo Nucci, under the baton of conductor Leonardo Sini, leading the Orchestra FilarmonicaItaliana. Attendees were spellbound by this concert, expressing gratitude for the privilege of witnessing world-leading performers on the esteemed ROHM stage. In a heartfelt video message, soprano Sonya Yoncheva expressed her joy in coming to Oman for the first time in her illustrious career, emphasising the honour of paying tribute to the incomparable Maria Callas.
Following this resplendent tribute, audiences were treated to Giacomo Puccini's timeless masterpiece,La Bohème. Directed by Jean-Louis Grinda, Director of the Monte Carlo Opera, and conducted by Leonardo Sini, with the Orchestra FilarmonicaItaliana and the Symphonic Choir of Parma and Emilia Romagna, this poignant opera unfolded the enchanting love story set in Paris's Latin quarter.Commenting on this co-production, Jean-Louis Grinda stated: “Collaborating once again with the Royal Opera House Muscat is a privilege and a great joy. The production of La Bohème was created in Oman with great success in October 2019 and I am very happy to revisit it with, as always in Muscat, a prestigious cast.” Starring Mariangela Sicilia as Mimì, Liparit Avetisyan as Rodolfo, Hasmik Torosyan as Musetta, Semen Antakov as Marcelo, Daniele Terenzi as Schaunard, Matteo Peirone as Benoîtand Riccardo Zanellato as Colline, this co-production between ROHM and the Monte Carlo Opera enchanted audiences once again. The return of the immensely talented composer Leonardo Sini, conducting the Orchestra FilarmonicaItaliana, added an extra layer of brilliance to the performance.
The final show of the season will welcome the Cairo Opera for a unique two-night representation of Scheherazade on May 23 and 24 at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts.
