Foundation stone laid for OMR 45 milion hospital project in Al Dakhiliyah

Muscat : At a cost of OMR 45 million, the Ministry of Health (MOH), has laid foundation stone for new Samail Hospital Project in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place today (Wednesday) for the New Samail Hospital project in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

The ceremony was held under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh AbdulMalik Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, and attended by of H.E. Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, H.E. Sheikh Hilal Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, along with several members of Shura Council and Walis of the Governorate, as well as sheikhs and prominent individuals of the Wilayiah.

The new OMR 45 million 5-storey hospital project is constructed on a total land area estimated at 250,000 square meters, with a built-up area exceeding 61,000 square meters. Modern specifications have been carefully considered in its construction, adhering to international design patterns and contemporary global standards to create a unique contemporary design distinct from conventional designs.

On this occasion, Dr. Saeed Harib Al Lamki, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs, emphasized that expanding the scope of specialized service provision and upgrading referral hospitals stands as a pivotal strategic initiative to achieve the Comprehensive Health Coverage Program, a cornerstone of the healthcare strategy. This initiative is geared towards delivering healthcare at the secondary and tertiary levels, currently achieved through the establishment, replacement, and enhancement of numerous hospitals across most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, H.E.Dr. Al Lamki highlighted.

Health Affairs Undersecretary pointed out that by the end of 2023, the number of MOH healthcare institutions reached (265) facility, distributed as follows: (194) health centers, (21) health polyclinics, and (50) hospitals, with a collective capacity exceeding five thousand beds. These facilities deliver healthcare across all levels with a focus on efficiency and quality. Presently, the Ministry is actively involved in the establishment of nine new hospitals across all governorates of Oman, Al Lamki added, noting that laying the foundation stone for the Samail Hospital today marks a significant milestone.

Engineer Yousuf Ya'qoub Ambo Ali, Advisor to the Minister of Health for Engineering Affairs, gave an overview of the project components, saying that the new Samail Hospital will accommodate 170 beds, consisting of outpatient clinics for all medical specialties, an accident and emergency department, a radiology department equipped with state-of-the-art radiography equipment, a physiotherapy unit, a nephrology unit, and a psychiatric clinic.

He further stated that the hospital will incorporate a day care unit, a dental clinic, as well as surgical and internal medicine wards, along with three fully equipped operating theaters as well as special section for an intensive care unit. Additionally, the project will include a comprehensive floor for gynaecological and obstetric, and pediatrics, comprising a pediatric ward, a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), gynaecological and obstetric ward, and a maternity ward, in addition to two operating rooms and a special acre baby unit (SCBU).

In addition, the project will include an advanced laboratory, pharmacies distributed throughout the hospital, public facilities, medical category facilities, workshops for maintenance engineers and medical equipment, administrative offices, buildings for medical and general stores, a water treatment station, a helipad, back-up generators, water purification devices, and other public services and facilities.
