Muscat: The Ministry of Economy on Monday held an introductory workshop on the guide designed for preparing public policies. The workshop was attended by representatives of 46 institutions.
The “Public Policy Preparation Guide” provides policymakers with a roadmap for drafting public policies in Oman.
It covers the stages of preparation, analysis, implementation, review and assessment of public policies. These steps are based on a professional reference that responds to principles, methodologies, technical tools and frameworks necessary for ensuring the soundness, applicability and effectiveness of public policies.
The guide addresses public sector senior managers and experts tasked with developing and designing policies, in addition to researchers, analysts, public policy pioneers and all those interested in the process of public policy-making.
Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, stressed the significance of professionally devising public policies in a manner that keeps pace with rapid developments in economic, social, political and security domains in countries around the world.
The overall objective of government institutions (when drafting public policies) is to improve the economy, enhance performance, channel development efforts and achieve balance, sustainability and optimisation of resources and capabilities, the minister explained.
The specialists at the Economy Ministry made a visual presentation to introduce the rationale of public policy, as well as salient features and methodologies of writing the script of public policy, the cycle of its endorsement and models of the ‘policy paper’.
