Rio de Janeiro: There was no medal on Olympic debut for Wadha Al Balushi but the Omani shooter did gain in experience and made an impression during the second day of action at the Olympic Games on Sunday.
Taking part in the women’s 10m air pistol qualification round, the 26-year-old Omani girl finished in a commendable 26th place.
Wadha scored 379 points, an achievement equalled by six others in a strong field comprising the best shooters from around the world.
While Wadha’s participation ended on Sunday, Oman’s three other athletes, including ace sprinter Barakat Al Harthi, will be in action in the coming days.
Mazoon Al Alawi, the second woman athlete in the Omani contingent, is scheduled to take part in the 100m race. The 18-year-old will start her participation with the qualification heats on Friday.
Barakat Al Harthi, a 100m bronze medallist in the Beijing Asian Games, will be in action in the 100m heats on Saturday.
A day later, Oman’s other shooter Hamed Al Khatri will start his campaign in the men’s 50m rifle three position qualification round.
