Oman celebrates Omani Women's day

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, celebrates Omani Women's Day on 17 October each year.

This year’s celebration, held at Al Bustan Palace Hotel, was dedicated to the theme of culture, literature, and poetry. Creative and accomplished women in the fields of poetry, theatre, novels, documents, and national manuscripts were present.

His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar and patron of the occasion, said: "This day confirms the role of Omani women as a fundamental component of society wherever they are, helping to build this integrated fabric." He added that this year's celebration focused on culture, literature, and poetry, which Omani women have enriched with their presence.

The ceremony included a visual presentation reflecting the role of Omani women in the field of culture and literature and the announcement of a special publication for Omani women entitled "Omani Women: A 100-Year Journey of Giving", which aims to document the contributions of female talents to the Omani renaissance. It also seeks to explore the realities of Omani women and their distinction in various fields to support and enhance their role.

The publication targets prominent and accomplished Omani women aged 19 and above in specific fields, such as work, influencers in their social environment, achievers and innovators, and recipients of honours and recognition at local, regional, and international levels.

This edition is divided into two parts: the first covering the fifty years before the blessed Renaissance, and the second from the era of the blessed Renaissance led by Sultan Qaboos bin Said – may God bless his soul – to the era of the renewed Renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The book is updated with a new edition every two years.

The ceremony also featured the operetta "Eve of Oman", which, through five panels, depicted the prestigious status of women and their societal role throughout history. It highlighted the Omani woman as an honourable and inspiring presence for the future, pride and honour in Omani women, the panel of loyalty and gratitude, and included the art of Al-Azi.

Following this, the patron of the ceremony honoured pioneering Omani women in the field of "culture and literature", specifically in "poetry, novels, theatre, and manuscripts". In the field of poetry, poetesses Badriya bint Mohammed Al Badriya, Rehab bint Harb Al Saadiya, Reem bint Redha Al Lawati, Dr. Saida bint Khater Al Farsi, Dr. Aisha bint Abdullah Al Fazari, Aisha bint Mohammed Al Saifiya, and Dr. Fatima bint Ali bin Mohammed Al Shidiya were honoured.
