Thrilling Opening Rounds at WTT Contender Muscat 2024

The 2024 WTT Contender Muscat tournament has kicked off with high-intensity matches at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, where preliminary rounds in men’s and women’s singles are already drawing considerable excitement.
 
In the men’s singles, Hong Kong's Yu Kwan clinched his first victory with a solid 3-1 win over Iran’s Hamid Shams Shahrebabaki. Similarly, Hong Kong's Lee Hong Ming displayed a commanding performance to sweep Iranian player Amir Hossein 3-0. Another Hong Kong contender, Ho Kaun Kit, emerged victorious over compatriot Kwan Man Ho with a 3-1 finish, while China's Yuan Lixin secured a noteworthy 3-1 victory against India's Baez Jain.
 
South Korea’s Jang Seung-il dominated in a 3-0 match against Oman’s Ghassan al Ghasani, while national paddler Badr al Jassasi encountered a challenging 0-3 loss to South Korean Hyung Koo. Iran’s Amir Mahdi bested Singapore’s Chiu Zhi with a 3-0 score, and Oman’s Muhannad al Balushi fell 0-3 to Iran’s Bani Amin Faraji. Singapore’s Choi Chen won by default after Egypt's Omar Ali withdrew from the match.
 
In the women’s preliminaries, Omani player Talya al Rawahi made her debut at the WTT Contender, ultimately facing a 0-3 defeat by Iran's Mahshid Eshtari.
 
The six days event is under organization of Oman Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the World Table Tennis (WTT). The event featured participation of 120 participants from 22 countries including China, Croatia, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Taiwan, Yemen, Bahrain, Palestine, Egypt, Czech and the hosts Oman.
