Muscat: In the world of high-end design and construction, a leading Omani company is carving a distinct niche as a premier fit-out company with ambitions that extend far beyond the Sultanate.
Global Building and Construction LLC (GBC) has embraced the “Made in Oman” philosophy, and has earned accolades for delivering bespoke, luxurious interiors that celebrate Omani craftsmanship while enhancing global design sensibilities.
In an exclusive interview to Times of Oman recently, Devang Soni, partner at GBC, shared insights into the company’s achievements, including their crowning jewel - the fine-dining Em Sherif restaurant at The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat - and their vision to expand across the GCC region.
‘A prestigious milestone’
One of GBC’s standout projects is the recently completed Em Sherif restaurant, a globally celebrated Lebanese fine-dining brand with origins in Beirut. Known for its mastery of Lebanese cuisine, Em Sherif has over 25 branches worldwide, but its Muscat location at The St. Regis Al Mouj is particularly special.
“This was a prestigious project for us,” Soni said. “To execute the first branch in Oman was not only a challenge but also a source of immense pride. The fact that an Omani company delivered this speaks volumes about our capabilities.”
The restaurant, designed by renowned architect Ramy Boutros, captures the essence of Lebanese culture with Mediterranean influences. Its iconic blue-and-white palette, intricate Mashrabiya screens, and luxurious interiors create a space that is both sophisticated and culturally resonant.
“Em Sherif is a design masterpiece,” Soni said with a sense of pride. “It’s a blend of elegance and tradition, and the feedback we’ve received has been phenomenal. The restaurant has become a social media sensation, and we’re thrilled to see how it resonates with the community.”
Other landmark projects
Beyond Em Sherif, GBC’s expertise spans a variety of sectors. The company has delivered exclusive fit-outs for luxury hotels, bespoke villas, and commercial spaces, often collaborating with international architects and designers. “We’ve worked on projects that demand precision, creativity, and a deep understanding of cultural nuances,” Soni said.
“This is what sets us apart - we don’t just build spaces; we create experiences.”
Driving innovation and sustainability
A key pillar of GBC’s philosophy is sustainability. The company integrates eco-friendly practices into its projects, using sustainable materials and advanced construction technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) and 3D printing.
“Sustainability is not just a trend; it’s a responsibility,” Soni emphasised.
“We aim to lead by example, ensuring that our projects are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally conscious.”
Commitment to local talent and community
As part of their dedication to Oman, GBC actively invests in training and employing local talent. “We believe in empowering Omani youth,” Soni said.
“By providing them with opportunities to work on world-class projects, we’re helping shape the future of Oman’s Interior fit-out, joinery and design industry.”
The company also engages in community initiatives, contributing to public spaces and cultural projects that celebrate Oman’s heritage.
With a proven track record of success and a clear vision for the future, GBC is poised to become a leading name in the fit-out industry across Oman.
“The successful delivery of Em Sherif proves the might of Oman,” Soni said. “With more developments on the horizon, we’re confident that the ‘Made in Oman’ movement will soon become the talk of the region, and GBC will be at the forefront of this transformation.”
As Oman continues to emerge as a hub of creativity and innovation, companies like GBC are leading the charge, showcasing the unique blend of tradition and modernity that defines Omani excellence. Whether through stunning interiors or sustainable practices, GBC is not just building spaces - they’re building a legacy.
