CAA issues licence for drone air traffic management

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has granted a licence to “Tahleeq Drone Services” (LLC) for the registration and management of drone air traffic in the Sultanate of Oman.

This initiative aims to enhance air navigation safety and regulate drone operations within Omani airspace.

The move is part of the activities of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Security Week and the High-Level Ministerial Meeting from during 9 to 12 December 2024.

The drone air traffic registration and management service, provided through the Serb platform, includes a cutting-edge digital system.

In its initial phase, the platform will focus on registering amateur drone operators.

The platform offers a mechanism to record operator data, grant licences upon successful completion of a simple knowledge test, and allow drone flights in designated safe areas in collaboration with military and security agencies.

This service addresses the significant increase in drone usage by expediting permit issuance and streamlining registration procedures.

Additionally, the platform monitors and tracks drone operations, ensuring high security and protection against cyber threats. All data is stored on local servers, utilising locally developed algorithms and software.
