Highly anticipated event showcasing Oman’s heritage, desert charm opens

Muscat: The highly anticipated “Rahala” event officially launched on Monday in the Jufaa region of Al Qabil, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Designed to highlight the region’s stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, the event offers a unique tourism experience for families, adventurers, and culture enthusiasts from across Oman and beyond.

Organised collaboratively by the North Al Sharqiyah Governor’s Office, the Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), and the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, “Rahala” is a cornerstone initiative aimed at enhancing Oman’s appeal as a sustainable tourism destination.

The event was inaugurated under the patronage of Ibrahim bin Said Al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, in the presence of Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhadhli, Governor of North Al Sharqiyah, and Azzan bin Qassim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism and Chairman of Omran Group, along with key officials and community representatives.

Speaking at the opening, Mahmoud bin Yahya Al Dhadhli highlighted the event’s importance: “‘Rahala’ is more than just a tourism initiative; it is a platform that celebrates Oman’s cultural and natural assets while fostering economic growth and community development. We believe this event will inspire visitors to explore the authentic experiences North Al Sharqiyah has to offer, while creating tangible opportunities for our local communities.”

Dr. Hashil bin Obaid Al Mahrouqi, CEO of Omran Group, emphasized the role of partnerships in the event’s success: “At Omran Group, we are committed to leveraging Oman’s exceptional heritage and natural diversity to deliver unique tourism experiences. Through ‘Rahala,’ we aim to create meaningful economic opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and foster collaboration with local communities, ensuring long-term benefits for all stakeholders.”

The event also features modern entertainment options, including digital games and stargazing experiences, creating a blend of tradition and contemporary recreation.

Highlighting the event’s broader impact, Sumaiya bint Hamad Al Busaidiyah, Director of Heritage and Tourism in North Al Sharqiyah, noted: “‘Rahala’ reflects our vision to elevate desert tourism while celebrating the natural and cultural treasures of North Al Sharqiyah. This event not only enriches the tourism experience but also supports local businesses and home-based entrepreneurs, driving economic growth and increasing hotel occupancy rates in the region.”
