Muscat: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) will celebrate the laying of the foundation stone for the project to connect Masirah Island to the main electricity transmission network on Thursday, 6 February 2025.
This project comes as part of Oman Electricity Transmission Company’s continuous efforts to enhance the reliability, safety and sustainability of the electricity transmission network throughout the Sultanate of Oman.
The ceremony will be held under the auspices of Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
The OMR72 million project, the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, uses modern technology to establish a 132/33 kilovolt station and a set of overhead and ground transmission lines and marine cables extending over a total distance of about 94 kilometres.
It will connect Masirah station and Mahout station through a 400/132 kilovolts power line.
The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132 kilovolts and above to cover most of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman from north to south. OETC also runs the interconnection lines between the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC interconnection network at a voltage of 220 kilovolts.
