Oman Medical Specialty Board celebrates graduation of 144 doctors

Muscat: The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) on Tuesday celebrated the graduation of 144 doctors from the 16th batch who completed a training period ranging from four to six academic years for specialised training programmes and one to three years for local fellowship.

The ceremony, which was held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, was sponsored by Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oman Medical Specialty Board.

The graduates’ specialisations were distributed among 21 medical specialisations, 3 of which were in the local fellowship, namely: ear medicine and surgery, genetic medicine, and pediatric hematology and oncology, and 18 medical specialisations, namely: tissue diseases, anesthesia, biochemistry and clinical, dermatology, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, hematology, internal medicine, microbiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology and surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthopedics, ear, nose and throat surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and radiology.

In her speech,  Dr Fatima bint Mohammed Al Ajmi,  CEO of the Oman Medical Specialty Board, said: “Celebrating your graduation represents a gateway to a new world full of responsibility, as you today carry the torch of knowledge to contribute to the advancement of the health system in the Sultanate of Oman. You will enter a field full of challenges, but it is a field full of opportunities for giving and humanity, so be ambassadors of goodness and knowledge.”

She added: The Oman Medical Specialty Board remains a lofty edifice that illuminates the path of science and specialistion, and the training curriculum of the Board makes development and keeping pace with medical educational and training developments a basic motive for qualifying doctors. In its halls, you have refined your professionalism and received advanced training in your specialisations, to raise the level of medical professional performance.

She pointed out that the Council continues to achieve its goals and implement its educational and training plans, confirming its leadership and uniqueness in qualifying doctors. Since its establishment until today, 1,508 male and female doctors have graduated from its specialty and fellowship programmes, and we are on the verge of completing the current five-year plan by 2025. We are proud of the strategic achievements we have made that have contributed to developing our programmes and enhancing the quality of our educational outcomes.

She stated that the Oman Medical Specialty Board is participating in preparing the eleventh five-year plan for the health sector, which will be launched at the beginning of 2026. It will focus on expanding specialised programmes and enhancing the adoption of technology and artificial intelligence in advanced medical education, to raise the efficiency of clinical training, which ensures the graduation of medical cadres capable of keeping pace with global developments.
