Algiers: An official Omani delegation headed by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), began its visit to Algeria on Tuesday.
The delegation includes Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, in addition to a number of CEOs of the OIA affiliated companies.
The two-day visit aims to explore boosting economic and investment cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria. The visit also aims to discuss prospects for cooperation in the economic and investment fields between the two countries.
Abdulsalam Al Marshadi, OIA Chairman stressed that the visit aims to support the advanced ties between the Sultanate of Oman and Algeria, and to link the existing communication at the political, diplomatic and popular levels with common economic interests.
He pointed out that there is a keenness to develop mutual investment projects that include vital sectors, most notably the pharmaceutical industries, agriculture and livestock, as well as fields related to food security. He referred to the possibility of enhancing cooperation in other areas such as the logistics and financial sectors.
He explained that Omani investments in Algeria have already begun through the private sector, while the government sector will contribute this year (2025) to completing this path through diverse economic projects that enhance economic cooperation between the two countries.
As part of the meetings held by the ministers with their counterparts from the Algerian side, Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, met with the Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries. The two sides explored ways to enhance the strategic partnership in areas related to food security.
The activation of the memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries was also discussed, in order to achieve common interests and enhance cooperation in the agricultural, fisheries and rural development sectors.
Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, also met with his Algerian counterpart, the Minister of Health. During the meeting, the two sides discussed aspects of cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical industries and the exchange of expertise between the two countries, governance between the public and private sectors, as well as the priority of locally manufactured products in government tenders.
This visit comes within the framework of the keenness of the leaderships of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development and enhancing mutual investments between the Sultanate of Oman and Algeria. The visit also comes to follow up the framework of governmental and investment cooperation in the field of desert farming, pharmaceutical industries and other lucrative investments and vital opportunities that were the subject of discussion during the visit of the Algerian President to the Sultanate of Oman in October 2024.
