Muscat :The General Directorate of Muscat Municipality has completed the "Green Park and Walkway" project in Maabela South in the Wilayat of Seeb.
The project covers a total area of 3.4 square kilometres and will serve a large segment of society.
Engineer Musa bin Salem Al Saqri, Assistant Director General for Technical Affairs at the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Seeb, said that the project aims to provide sustainable services to members of society, and provide a healthy natural outlet that encourages the practice of physical and sports activities. It will help in improving the health of the population and also serve as a meeting place for families to gather and relax.
Al Saqri added that the project was implemented as a community initiative by one of the private sector companies in the Sultanate of Oman within the framework of partnership and social responsibility between public and private sector institutions under the supervision and follow-up of Muscat Municipality in Seeb.
It is one of the largest parks in the Wilayat of Seeb and its path begins from east of Al Noor Street and ends to the west of the old car market."
Al Saqri explained that the project includes multiple service facilities to serve different segments of society, including people with disabilities, most notably a sports walkway and a bicycle path with a length of (3,400) meters each, pedestrian overpasses, special sites for children's games, physical sports equipment, multi-use sports fields, a site for skateboarding, in addition to a number of rest areas, restaurants, cafes and sites prepared for mobile vehicles. The green spaces of the project were also created to add an aesthetic character and picturesque views to the place, in addition to providing the park with lighting, noting that the project was designed according to principles that took into account quality and sustainability standards.
It is worth noting that the idea of implementing the project comes with the municipality's vision to provide environments that enhance health and support the strategy of modern cities. This project is also the result of experiments implemented by the municipality in several locations to benefit from some open sites with good spaces, and can be exploited in an ideal way.
