Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced that the integration of all white and orange taxis operating in public places with licensed applications from April 1, following an extension of the original timeline.
The licenced applications outlined by the ministry include OmanTaxi, OTaxi, Marhaba, Hala, and Tasleem.
The phased rollout of the “Aber” application began with targeting taxis operating at airports, followed by those at hotels, commercial centres, and ports in the second phase, which commenced on November 1, 2023.
The third phase, initially set to start on January 1, 2024, will now begin from April 1, targeting all white and orange taxis operating in public spaces.
This initiative is included in the Land Transport Law and its executive regulations. It aims to enhance benefits for taxi owners by leveraging innovative technologies within the licensed apps, offering features like trip tracking and route monitoring, all while prioritising user privacy and security.
Taxi operators and the public are encouraged to comply with and support the smooth implementation of this programme, which seeks to modernise and elevate the transport sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
