Oman emerge as overall champions in Gulf Games

Muscat: As curtain fell on the third Gulf Games in Muscat 2025, Oman emerged as the overall champions, leading the medals tally in a tournament that witnessed the participation of six Gulf countries over seven days.

Oman secured an impressive 45 medals, comprising 20 gold, 18 silver, and 7 bronze. The UAE followed with 22 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze), while Saudi Arabia took third place with 18 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, 8 bronze).

In a thrilling conclusion, Oman’s beach soccer team clinched the gold medal with a resounding 7-2 victory over Saudi Arabia, finishing the competition with 11 points. The UAE claimed the silver after defeating Kuwait 5-1, achieving 9 points, while Saudi Arabia secured the bronze with 6 points.

Oman’s long-distance swimming team also excelled, winning the gold medal in the 5-kilometre race. The Saudi team finished second, followed by Bahrain in third. In individual 5-kilometre competitions, Omani swimmer Ayman Al-Qasimi won the silver medal, and teammate Nidal Al-Harassi claimed bronze. The gold medal in this category went to Saudi swimmer Mohammed Al-Zaki.

Oman’s sailing team showcased dominance, earning seven medals across various events. In the Optimist boat general category, Omani sailor Khamis Al-Shamkhi secured silver, with compatriot Tartil Al-Hasani taking bronze.

The UAE's Khalifa Al-Rumaithi claimed gold. In the Optimist girls’ category, Tartil Al-Hasani clinched gold, followed by Bahraini sailor Malak Al-Dosari in second place, and Emirati Madiya Al-Niyadi in third.

For the Optimist juniors, Omani sailor Mohammed Al-Qasimi won silver, the UAE’s Zayed Al-Hosni took gold, and Qatar’s Tamim Khalid earned bronze.

In the ILCA 4 girls’ category, Emirati sailor Marwa Al-Hammadi won gold, her teammate Al-Yazi Al-Hammadi took silver, and Bahrain’s Amina Al-Sadiq claimed bronze. In the ILCA 4 boys’ category, Oman’s Abdul Latif Al-Qasimi earned gold, with silver going to Emirati Mohammed Al-Marzouqi and bronze to Bahraini Khalifa Al-Dosari.

In the ILCA 6 girls’ category, Emirati sailor Dohaa Al-Bushar secured gold, Kuwait’s Amina Abdullah earned silver, and the UAE’s Kamilia Khalifa took bronze.

In the ILCA 6 boys’ category, Emirati Othman Al-Hammadi claimed gold, followed by Bahrain’s Dawood Abdullah with silver, and Omani sailor Moatasem Al-Farsi earning bronze. In the ILCA 7 boys’ event, Oman’s Hassan Al-Jabri secured gold, with the UAE’s Adel Al-Baskiti taking silver, and Bahraini Ahmed Sadiq earning bronze.

The Gulf Games concluded with Oman demonstrating outstanding performance and further solidifying its reputation in sports across the region.
