Environment Authority organises competition for government sector units in Al Buraimi

Al Buraimi: The Environment Authority in Al Buraimi Governorate has launched an environmental competition targeting government sector institutions and their employees. The initiative aims to encourage participation in the distribution and cultivation of wild trees as part of the national campaign to plant 10 million wild trees, implemented by the Environment Authority across the Sultanate of Oman.

The competition coincides with the International Day for Biological Diversity, observed annually on 22 May, reflecting the Authority's commitment to raising environmental awareness among institutions and the community while promoting sustainable practices that contribute to preserving biodiversity in Oman.

As part of the initiative, the Authority conducted field visits to several government entities in the governorate, delivering awareness lectures to introduce employees to the campaign's objectives and participation mechanisms. The sessions also included demonstrations on using the "Ashjar" (Trees) electronic application, which facilitates requests for wild seedlings, and encouraged employees to share the app within their local communities.

During the visits, participants discussed ideas and proposals for joint environmental projects aimed at expanding green spaces and enhancing inter-institutional cooperation in environmental protection.

Upon concluding the competition, the Authority will honor the top-performing institution and employees who demonstrated exceptional initiative and engagement in tree-planting activities and environmental awareness promotion. The Authority also announced plans to expand participation in the next phase to include additional government entities across the governorate, aiming to maximize benefits and foster healthy competition in environmental stewardship.

This initiative underscores the Environment Authority's efforts to embed environmental sustainability principles and its pivotal role in enhancing biodiversity through expanded wild tree cultivation. Such measures contribute to climate change adaptation and the preservation of Oman's ecosystems.
